Sustainability and LEED Certification

Sustainability is an integral part of Upstate’s culture, as we have diligently worked to reduce energy usage and minimize our carbon footprint. Our current green initiatives include increased use of solar panels, dedicated composting and recycling, the addition of electric vehicle charging stations, and other projects that integrate sustainability into long-term institutional planning and decision making.

Creating the Nappi Wellness Institute was an opportunity to further prioritize our commitment to sustainability and the wellness of our patients, healthcare providers, and learners. As such, Upstate has worked to achieve the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification.

The US Green Building Council LEED program is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership. LEED considers both people and the planet and certifies projects that are sustainable, resilient, healthy, and equitable places.
